Guadalupe Valley Lakes Update

January 9, 2022

The below information was posted to the Guadalupe Valley Lakes website (www.gvlakes.com) on December 22, 2021 and relates to the GBRA construction timelines for Lake McQueeney and Lake Placid.

GBRA CONSTRUCTION TIMELINE UPDATE

Obtaining the necessary permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the next step in the process of completing the necessary replacement of the spillgates and enhancement of the dams at Lake McQueeney and Lake Placid. In alignment with standard procedure, GBRA formally initiated the permitting process with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in August 2021 during the engineering design phase of both projects.

We were recently informed that both the Lake McQueeney and Lake Placid projects would be subject to unexpected additional permitting requirements, different from what was required for the Lake Dunlap project. The two projects were originally scheduled to begin construction in February 2022; however, the additional permitting requirements will delay construction until at least summer 2022.

Our engineering and executive teams continue to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to obtain permits as quickly as possible.

We will continue to provide timeline updates as they become available. Property owners on Lake McQueeney can expect to receive a 60-day notice prior to any drawdown activities, as the lowering of the spillgates will be necessary prior to the beginning of construction. GBRA does not recommend the storage of recreational property on any of the Guadalupe Valley Lakes as spillgate failures can occur without warning.
